Come along to the launce of our new Women Empower Series taking place on Wednesday 12th May 2021, where we are delighted to be partnering with Dublin Bus for the series.

Dublin Chamber’s Women Empower Series is a series of two exclusive events for senior decision makers from Dublin Chamber’s corporate and business membership. Each event focuses on leadership issues and explores the challenges faced by women in making it to the top in business. High profile guest speakers offer an overview of their career, leadership style and their industry. The series gives guests access to high level thought leadership focused sessions and the opportunity to network.


On the day we will hear from Lord Mayor of Dublin Hazel Chu. Lord Mayor Hazel Chu will discuss the following:


- Her role and experience as Lord Mayor of Dublin

- The barriers that exist in attracting, retaining and developing female talent, and     how to maintain and encourage female participation at management and leadership   level

- How companies can build diverse teams and foster cultures of inclusivity in the       workplace

- The opportunities and challenges for Women in politics

About our Speakers:

Lord Mayor of Dublin Hazel Chu 

Councillor Hazel Chu was elected the 352nd Lord Mayor of Dublin at the Annual Meeting of Dublin City Council held on 29th June 2020 in the Round Room at the Mansion House. Hazel Chu was born and raised in Dublin. She grew up in the suburb of Firhouse, before moving to Celbridge, and now lives in Ranelagh with her partner Patrick and their 2 year old daughter Alex. She first became involved in politics in 2014, when she ran her partner’s local election campaign. In 2019, she became the first Green Party councillor to be elected in the local elections for the ward of 
Pembroke and topped the poll with over 4,000 first preference votes. In the same year she was  elected Chair of the Party.
She studied politics and history in UCD and trained to be a barrister at Kings Inns. While studying she worked as a fundraising consultant for non-profits and as a production manager for music festivals.  After being called to the Bar in 2007 she worked in Sydney, Hong Kong and Guilin. Upon returning  home she was offered a Fellowship by UCD Smurfit and worked in New York for Bord Bia. She has 
worked in various management roles and in 2013 became Diageo’s Head of Brand, Corporate and Trade Communications. Councillor Chu was the first person in her family to finish school and go to college. Her parents are from Hong Kong. They met in Ireland in the 1970s. In her spare time she lends her voice to promoting diversity and equality, and is a regular media contributor. Her first loves are her daughter, running election campaigns, surfing, and cooking. Since  she was a teenager she has worked in her mother’s restaurant in every position from dishwasher to 
waitress, to sous chef. Hazel Chu is the 9th woman to hold the office of the Lord Mayor of Dublin.

Andrea Keane 
Andrea Keane is Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary of Bus Átha Cliath. She joined the company in September 2016. Andrea previously worked as Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary for Bus Éireann.   
In her current position she is responsible for all financial matters within the company and as Company Secretary is responsible for advising the Board, through the Chairperson, on governance issues. Andrea is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. She previously worked in Iarnród Éireann as Manager of Management Accounts and has also worked in the private sector in a number of Financial and Management Accounting roles

 




Catherine Moroney, Head of Business Banking Market, AIB

Catherine is Head of Business Banking Market at AIB Bank.  She is also Chairman & Non-Executive Director of AIB Corporate Finance and is President of Dublin Chamber 2020 & 2021 and a Board and Council Member.  Catherine is also a member of the Advisory Board of DCU Centre for Family Business, a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers, a founding member of LIFT, a leadership not-for-profit organisation and a former Non-Exec Director of Aviva Health.  
Catherine has spent her career in financial services across Corporate, Business, Treasury and Retail Banking, as well as leading teams in the development of Strategy, Products and large change programmes.
Catherine was awarded the ‘International Financial Leader of the Decade’ award at the Women’s Economic Forum in India in May 2018 and awarded a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ by the WEF in 2020.  In 2018, Catherine was awarded ‘Business Woman of the Year’ at the Irish National In-Business Recognition Awards in December 2018 and ‘Best Business Bank’ in 2019 & 2020.   In 2017 she was awarded ‘Top 25 Most Powerful Women in Ireland’ award from the WXN (Women’s Executive Network).
