Domestic Building Energy Ratings Q2 2023

The Building Energy Rating (BER) rating scale is an indication of the energy performance of a dwelling, subject to which the occupants operate the dwelling. Nonetheless, BER ratings range from A to G, with A rated dwellings being the most energy efficient. This month the CSO released these ratings, and the following findings were published.

  • The highest proportion of A rated energy audits was in Dublin 18, at 33% of dwellings with a BER.
  • At county level, Kildare (24%), Meath (22%) and Dublin County (21%) had the highest proportion of A ratings while Leitrim had the lowest at 3%.
  • Dublin 18 had the lowest average dwelling age, at 15 years for buildings with a BER audit. Dublin 6 had the oldest average, at 61 years.

Dublin Chamber is a strong advocate for sustainability and stresses the importance of upholding UN Sustainability Goals, through the Climate Action Plan. These figures show that the Greater Dublin Area is at the forefront of sustainable building practices which is welcomed by the Dublin Chamber. Dublin Chamber’s member elected Sustainability Taskforce is active in representing and advocating the needs of Dublin businesses at the highest levels of government. The taskforce is set to meet this week for discussions regarding the Climate Action Plan 2024.
