As Dublin continues to grow, so too do the demands on infrastructure, and water is rapidly emerging as one of the most pressing concerns. Currently, 85% of the region’s water supply comes from the River Liffey, leaving the city and surrounding areas heavily reliant on a single, increasingly vulnerable source. Rising demand driven by population growth, housing, and climate change only adds to this pressure.
Without urgent investment in both water and wastewater treatment infrastructure, Dublin risks facing significant water shortages, threatening business continuity and future economic development, amongst others.
To help inform our advocacy and engagement with Government on this issue, Dublin Chamber invites you to an online roundtable discussion at 12pm on Friday, 6th June. The session will last approximately 60 minutes, and discussions will be guided by your insights and broadly framed by the following questions:
- How does the current state of water infrastructure in Dublin and the GDA affect business continuity, investment decisions, and future economic growth in the region?
- To what extent is water supply resilience considered in strategic planning by businesses?
- What are the potential risks and costs to businesses in the GDA if current water infrastructure challenges, such as capacity limits, leakage, and supply insecurity, are not addressed in the near term?
