Roundtable Discussion on Statutory Sick Leave

Event Details

The Statutory Sick Pay scheme, introduced under the Sick Leave Act 2022, aims to bring Ireland in line with other European countries that mandate paid sick leave for workers. From the 1st of January 2023, employees in Ireland became entitled to three days paid sick leave and this increased to five days in 2024. To qualify, employees must have completed 13 weeks’ continuous service with their employer. Eligible employees are entitled to a rate of 70% of their usual daily earnings, capped at €110 a day, for certified leave only. It is proposed that the SSP entitlement will increase to seven days in 2025 and ten days in 2026.

Date:
Fri 25 Oct 2024
Time:
12:00 PM - 01:00 PM
Venue:
Webinar, Dublin Chamber, . .
The roundtable discussion will be held online at 12pm on Friday 25th October. The session will last approximately 60 minutes, and we hope to have a robust exchange of views and sharing of business experiences. Discussion will be based on your individual input and broadly framed by the following questions:
  1. How has the implementation of statutory sick leave impacted your business operations so far, and how do you anticipate future expansions to affect your firm?
  2. What are the direct and indirect costs to the employer of providing statutory sick pay? Have you observed any benefits or positive outcomes from this provision?
  3. Have you encountered challenges with employees potentially misusing sick leave entitlement? For example, have you observed patterns such as employees using sick leave during peak business periods, the increasing use of vague digital medical certificates, or instances where sick pay seems to be treated as additional holiday leave?

Please register your interest in participating by emailing emma@dublinchamber.ie. Attendance will be limited, so the remaining participant list will be filled on a first come first served basis
